(More customer reviews)I bought two of these, one for my Ford Escape, and one for my Pontiac convertible.
I bought this version because it was supposed to be more powerful than the 8100. I
had in fact tested out the 8100 at my local WalMart, and loved it! It was compatible
with my IOS4 in my Iphone 3G, and everything worked perfect. The thing is WalMart
discontinued the sale of the 8100, and the one they had on display they would not
sell. So I went online found the 8110, and assumed that since it was an "upgrade"
it too would work as well as the 8100 did,......how wrong could I be.
1st the 8110 does not work with IOS4 on a 3G (3Gs) properly. When you cradle the
device it gives you the incompatibility warning. If you want to cradle the device and
Use it to make phone calls, you have to use the external IPlug adapter and a aux cable
or else the phone will not work through the speakers of your vehicle (the 8100 did not
have this issue, you cradled the 8100, and the phone worked wonderfully, I tested it).
2nd each "mode" of the unit has it's own independent settings for volume, receiver levels,
bass, treble,......which is an excellent idea,...but. If you are in stereo mode you have
access to the front face buttons to make the selections, if you are in aux mode, you do as
well because the face is closed, However the face must be open with the device in place to
set those functions in Imode, and you have no access to the buttons that allow you to make
those adjustments,......this is a HUGE design flaw.
3rd The wireless remote does not work with IOS4 to use all features, nor does it do anything
but control volume in aux mode.
4th because the IOS phone is not fully compatible you may experience extremely uncomfortable
noise or feedback from certain high frequency antenna sources as you travel, and while the
phone is in use, almost to the point of being painful.
Those are the bad points.
The good points?
It has great sound quality, the independent bass and treble settings make it very customizable.
The Idock idea is an awesome one.
If I were to buy again I would buy the 8100 (there are some online for sale).
