(More customer reviews)I purchased these speakers because a) I've heard good stuff about Dayton, and b) they're just $25! Although they're 8ohm speakers, I'm running them from a 6ohm bookshelf system receiver. Compared to the system's original speakers (that are about 6 years old), these Dayton's sound great. A much cleaner sound, with much more distinct highs. There isn't quite as much bass, but it's tight and punchy, and is plenty for a small room or at a desk. The boxes aren't ported, so if you felt like dabbling for a bit more bass, that might be a way to go. They aren't rated for quite as much power as my system puts out, but I have not gotten any distortion from the speakers (probably because of their higher resistance), and I've taken them quite loud. So, for a dorm room, a basement, your garage, these are great speakers. They handle power, they sound great, and above all else, are cheap! Solid construction, too. Thick fiberboard with damping fiber in the cabinet for a good, tight sound.
Order them directly from Parts Express, though, as the shipping is a few dollars cheaper!
