(More customer reviews)The Sanus VLT15-B1 is a solid product that performs ably--your tv hangs on a strong hook rail and snaps into the bottom clasps, and feels quite sturdy, installed correctly. It also slides on the hook rail, so there's room to position a set after installation. It does, however, have a glaring design flaw if you want to install it across three stud posts, instead of two. If your TV is smaller, two stud posts should be plenty, but for the bigger sets, there's a caveat.
I have a new Samsung 58" that I wanted to stay put, and figured a downtilt would be a nice living room touch. It is. The VLT15-B1 also has fine leveling adjustments and tons of hardware, which makes it very user friendly. The hanging cords in the photo drop little kickstands that move the TV out a few inches on the bottom, so you can reach your cables. All that would make it a five-star product. Our big TV tilts easily yet feels very secure.
The problem is the drill spacing on the wall bracket. Look at the manufacturer's photo again; there are eight slots, four each on the top and bottom, where you align it to the studs and do your drilling; most people reading this don't need to be cautioned about accurately locating the studs. Here's the rub: the center spot on my wall doesn't match the studs, and yours might not either. The result is that you'll have a skewed placement of your wall bracket, where it reaches too far to one side or the other, leaving part of it without anchorage. Again, if your TV isn't a big'un it shouldn't be much of a problem, and four anchors to wall stud provide plenty of shearing resistance, much more than the mount itself is rated for. However, I wasn't willing to test the load and distribution mechanics with my pretty new 81 lb. toy, so I drilled new holes in the bracket's center and corners to make it match my studs. Testament to the VLT15-B1's durability was that it took a good moment or three to drill through. In the end, the bracket was centered and sturdier, anchored firmly across three wall studs. The TV looks beautiful, and I'm quite pleased despite the do-it-yourself-ishness.
I'd still buy it again, even with the work; it's a good product, and Amazon was efficient and competitive as always. But for shoppers with big TVs and little patience, I'd search for a mount that spans three studs--'Good enough' isn't the motto for hanging your lovely time wasters.
